Best O' 2014

Obligatory Blog. Obligatory Awards.

Top 5 Games of 2014

5. Mario Kart 8

It’s the most beautiful Wii U game, it’s the best playing Mario Kart to date, the DLC is fantastic, and it dominated my free time towards the end of my college career. Too bad they ruined battle mode.

4. Transistor

I didn’t love Bastion as much as everyone else did. It was pretty and sounded nice but the style was incoherent and the fighting was dull. Transistor took everything good about that game and fixed all the flaws with a brilliant, creative combat system and haunting, ruined, yet still classy cyber world.

3. Bayonetta 2

Above all else, I am a fan of ridiculousness, and there was no other game this year that featured more, better ridiculousness than the continuing adventures of gaming’s favorite sexy librarian dominatrix bullet hair witch in Bayonetta 2.

2. Threes!

You can read my thoughts on why this is the best mobile game of the year over on 148Apps.

1. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

Still hate the name, but Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is the best entry in my favorite series so how could it not top my list, even if its 3DS counterpart doesn’t feel entirely necessary.

More after the break.

Stuff O' 2012

2012 is almost over. Here's some stuff about it I liked.

Game O' 2012- Frog Fractions. Just play it. I hate this stupid spoilerphobic media culture we live in but to say literally anything about Frog Fractions besides "you should play it" would ruin it.

Movie O' 2012- TBD. I just haven't seen enough stuff to make this decision. Lincoln, Argo, Skyfall, The Dark Knight Rises, Looper, The Master, all great movies but with stuff like Django Unchained and Zero Dark Thirty still out there unseen I feel my opinion isn't fully informed yet.

Jam O' 2012- Skyfall Instrumental. It's a great song no matter what but the instrumental is perfect writing music for a top secret project I'm working on that may never actually turn into anything.

Show O' 2012- "Veep." Between this, In the Loop, and "The Thick of It," Armando Iannucci has proven that anything he makes about politics, no matter what country or position is targeted, will be brilliant and hilarious.

Book O' 2012- Books?

Bond Bonus Bit: Baby you’re the Best

Adele’s “Skyfall” theme song is now available and it’s awesome and everyone should listen to it.

Plus, it’s as good a reason as any for me to name my other favorite James Bond songs, in no particular order.

Woop Woop!

Every region has awful people. However, what makes awful people awful is sometimes inherent to the region they come from. Just like the “Jersey Shore” gang can only come from my home state, the meth-addled, wrestling-loving, magnet-studying clown family that is the Juggalos can only come from the Midwest where the Faygo flows like water.

For the past like dozen years, this group of freethinking fans of the Insane Clown Posse and their Psychopathic Records label has been putting together this music/freshness festival called “The Gathering of the Juggalos” where they can escape the mainstream and play the neden game to their heart’s content. While I’ve been aware of these ninjas for some time now, when they put out the truly spectacular infomercial for last’s year gathering, they skyrocketed up my “ironic appreciation” list right alongside James Franco and “Monster High.” The latest infomercial has now arrived so I’ve decided to share my thoughts in list form for you guys to peep.

“Runaway” from Transformers: Dark of the Moon

The title is referring to what you think

Happy Fourth of July! My "review" of the latest installment of this cinematic ordeal known as the Transformers franchise is after the jump. I use quotes because this is more of a structured rant that's been building for four years as opposed to a more objective assessment. If you really want to know if you should see this or not you'll find more useful pieces elsewhere on the internet.

But first I just wanted to share this video I’ve created that far better encapsulates my feelings, particularly towards the creators of these things, through images and music rather than the following absurd amount of written text.

Enjoy

Themes That Go With Things

I’m not sure how to feel that so far my most popular article has been a short-essay on a dumb internet joke. But give the people what they want. This time I'm talking about themes that go with certain situations. For example, Guile’s theme from Street Fighter II, well, it goes with everything. Just look.

Tron Legacy Reconfigured sort of review, or, Jeff Bridges gives you the business

I AM LISTENING TO THIS AS I TYPE THE WORDS YOU ARE READING RIGHT NOW

UPDATE: Looks like Disney is starting to take these off Youtube so the videos below might not work. Trust me though, these songs are totally worth getting when the album comes out for real on April 5th

I can never imagine being a music critic. Movies and video games sure. I have a lot to say about them and most other nerd things. But with music all I can ever come up with is something like "I like it, it sounds good. I don't know. I don't like lyrics. Robots". That and the admittedly small number of album reviews I've read seem a tad more pretentious then the already pretentious writing style of most other media critics.

Old Stuff Part 2- Videos! part 2

These are the videos of mine with a more musical flair. I've had a pretty solid relationship with music over the years. Played the trumpet for a hell of long time. But as these reflect, in varying degrees of quality, I prefer creating or manipulating music rather than playing it. Enjoy!
