2011 Chicago Chinese New Year or THREE HAPPINESS!

Another one of these Yahoo things. This one is about the trip me and some friends took to Chinatown for Chinese New Year. I'd say more but it would spoil the article.

Pokemon Black and White Review

I did a guest review of Pokemon Black and White for Dragon Blogger

This was the first new Pocket Monster game I'd played since the first one. Those were good days, back when the anime was still good too. Movies 1-5 were where it was at. But now, you can totally tell that the show is subservient to the games. After like ten years how is Ash not some sort of Pokemon demigod at this point? Compare that to the far superior show, seasons 1-3 of Digimon, where it was a show first with amazing concepts like plot, character development, and actual risk

Retro Review: Club Nintendo Game and Watch Ball and Mario Hanafuda Cards

Let's take the wayback machine and experience the original Nintendo entertainment devices

Quick history lesson, Nintendo has been around for over a hundred years. Since video games haven’t existed for that long obviously they were doing things before Mario or Pokemon were ever thoughts in someone’s head. While being run by the somewhat tyrannical Yamauchi dynasty, Nintendo did everything from operating cab companies to running “love hotels”, which are exactly what they sound like.

Tron Legacy Reconfigured sort of review, or, Jeff Bridges gives you the business

I AM LISTENING TO THIS AS I TYPE THE WORDS YOU ARE READING RIGHT NOW

UPDATE: Looks like Disney is starting to take these off Youtube so the videos below might not work. Trust me though, these songs are totally worth getting when the album comes out for real on April 5th

I can never imagine being a music critic. Movies and video games sure. I have a lot to say about them and most other nerd things. But with music all I can ever come up with is something like "I like it, it sounds good. I don't know. I don't like lyrics. Robots". That and the admittedly small number of album reviews I've read seem a tad more pretentious then the already pretentious writing style of most other media critics.

Let Kirby's Freak Flag Fly

I wrote an article about how there need to be more weird Kirby games like Kirby's Epic Yarn and it got promoted to the front page of Bitmob, a video game community blog.

"Kirby’s debut on the Wii last year seemed to more than make up for the pink puffball’s seven-year hiatus from home consoles. Kirby’s Epic Yarn impressed critics and players with its pleasant platforming and amazing arts-and-crafts aesthetic. With the franchise once again in the limelight, Nintendo revealed that HAL Laboratory’s long-dormant Kirby game for the GameCube is finally coming out on the Wii later this year.

But once videos starting coming out, some commenters had a curious reaction. They were glad that HAL, the studio that created Kirby, was going in a more traditional direction and than Epic Yarn, which apparently, despite its quality, was too much of a departure from a “real” Kirby game. That begs the question: What is a “real” Kirby game, anyway?"

3D's last chance

I love Nintendo but I hate 3D. So the upcoming 3DS has been a looming threat to my faith in the company for a while now. I would have to purchase and champion the device no matter what. But how do I justify one of its most important features without sounding like a total hypocrite? "They totally made it work this time. Suck it Avatar." "3D is still stupid for movies and TV but it works great on a handheld." "It's 3D with a sense of depth, not the stupid pop-out kind" "3D without glasses is the way only way I like it." These were all potential excuses. But after messing around with Pilotwings Resort on the 3DS for about an hour at Best Buy today, the best response I have is "The 3DS is neat but 3D is still dumb"

The Rise of Facebook Games

Told you content was coming

Yahoo has this thing called Associated Content where you write articles for them and they publish them. This guy Chris Barr helps run it and he gave a speech here last month. Fast forward to now and I've decided to post my final journalism article on there. If my professors liked it hopefully the internet will too. It's about the increasing relevancy of Facebook games like Farmville and Cityville

Okay, I'm really doing this now

Turns out posting all my old stuff so quickly sort of front loaded the launch of this thing. Plus that and finals kind of killed any dreams of maybe trying to update this somewhat regularly. Don't let that stop you from following/subscribing though because you should totally still do that. I mean it.

Oh well, there's still legit content in the works plus all the old stuff.
In the meantime I guess you'll have to settle with some cool stories.
